COP 16

As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted COP16, the global climate summit carried immense political and environmental significance. The event served as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 environmental objectives, positioning the nation as a leader in sustainability and renewable innovation. To support this vision, ALBADDAD was entrusted with constructing a world-class sustainable summit venue — a massive 104,000 m² modular complex combining functionality, durability, and environmental responsibility. The project integrated advanced smart structures, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and eco-conscious materials designed for minimal carbon impact while ensuring optimal comfort for delegates and global leaders.

Challenges

Design & Approval Delays: Client-side design approvals and material clearance delays disrupted the baseline schedule, impacting procurement, production, and installation workflows.
Last-Minute Design Changes: Post-freeze modifications in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems introduced major alterations in electrical loads, ventilation, and HVAC layout — requiring immediate design recalibration and on-site adaptation.
High-Level Coordination: As COP16 involved multiple international stakeholders and sustainability committees, design alignment with UN environmental standards and UAE codes demanded continuous technical reviews within compressed timeframes.

Our Solutions

ALBADDAD implemented an adaptive project recovery strategy built on precision management, in-house manufacturing power, and cross-departmental collaboration:

- Production Risk Mitigation: Increased factory output capacity by 40%, optimizing workflows to absorb clearance delays and accelerate structure fabrication.

- Schedule Compression On-Site: Boosted installation productivity from 1,500 m²/day to 2,400 m²/day, achieving a 50% efficiency gain without compromising quality.

- Design Freeze & Adaptive Engineering: Finalized MEP revisions under an approved design freeze while accommodating late HVAC and electrical updates from local inventory.

- ISO-Certified Controls: Maintained full compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 for quality, safety, and environmental integrity throughout the accelerated build phase.

- Sustainability Alignment: Ensured all materials met UN and national green codes, integrating reusable and low-emission systems for long-term ecological benefit.

Outcome

ALBADDAD successfully delivered COP16 Riyadh on time and to full specification, despite multiple scope revisions and high-pressure deadlines.
The 104,000 m² venue became a benchmark in sustainable large-scale event infrastructure, demonstrating how innovation, adaptability, and environmental stewardship can coexist even under the most demanding conditions. This achievement solidified ALBADDAD’s position as a global leader in modular green construction and as a trusted partner for international climate summits.
